The 2012 National Salesian Convention

Everyday Spirituality 4U: Holy Living through a Salesian Lens

What is Spirituality?

What is YOUR spirituality?

Some define it as the Holy Spirit finding expression in your uniqueness. St. Francis de Sales, that consummate spiritual director, teaches the disciples of Jesus.

To Be Their Best Selves!

This Salesian way of life invites us to let the Spirit make Jesus come alive in our own hearts, minds and actions. Make your life a continuous offering to God as Jesus did. Come to know God's presence and love in every moment and REJOICE!

This is an Everyday Spirituality 4U

Comments from attendees of the 2012 National Salesian Convention:

I'm a first time attendee and the entire gathering far exceeded my expectations…

Presenters were engaging, practical and fun. You could just tell everyone wanted to be there!

Down-to-earth, everyday, practical suggestions on how to live your life and truly experience God, joy and peace.

You can never get too much Salesian spirituality…it feeds my soul.

Wonderful homilies and prayer experiences.

If you missed the convention, don't miss ordering the CD set which includes all four presentations. For further details on the speakers and their topics, see below.

A Saturday Morning with Geoff Rose, OSFS and Fr. Joe Krupp

B who UR: A Spirituality just 4U. In spite of all the advances in our society which are designed to make our lives easier and give us more time for the important things, most actually do just the opposite. It would seem that we are more distracted, less connected, and more exhausted than in previous generations. We need to recover a sense of the sacred in the everyday experiences. We do not need to be sold another program, indeed no one wants or probably needs another demand for their time and energy. Let's explore who we are: our personality, with our vocation, is a hint to the part God has 4U to play in the world. See how developing our personal spirituality is not only important to us, but also the world! (Sound like a bit of an "oversell"?? It's not! )

Young people from the local area will be invited to take part in this segment bringing their own special personalities to the group.

Father Geoff Rose, is a teacher/preacher currently serving as chaplain and teacher at Lumen Christi Catholic High School in Jackson, Michigan. He has spoken, ministered, and led worship at national and international youth events including Mexico, Brazil, Philippines and World Youth Day in Toronto! Known affectionately as "Frose" by his students, his energy, humor, and passion for sharing God's love engages people, young and old!

Father Joe Krupp is a priest of the Diocese of Lansing who has served much of his priesthood in Catholic education, including Lansing Catholic High School and the student parish of Michigan State University. He is a columnist for FAITH Magazine and his book "Smart Answers & Bad Jokes" is a collection of his most popular answers to questions about God, the church, relationships and issues of the day.

A Saturday Afternoon with Jeanne Hunt and John Graden, OSFS:

Somebody's Knockin at My Door. This interactive workshop on prayer will bring out the best and worst in everyone who wants to pray more successfully. There is someone knocking at the door of our spirits. Jeanne and Fr. John will guide us, Salesian style, as we unlock that door and pull open the hinges of a ongoing conversation with the Divine One.

Jeanne Hunt is a Catholic Evangelist as well as mother, teacher, storyteller and joyful woman of God. Combining her talents in art and theology, she has worked as Associate Director of the Family Life Office for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati; Director of Religious Education; Editorial Advisor for Catechesis and Evangelization for St. Anthony Messenger Press and presenter of hundreds of parish missions, workshops and retreats. Jeanne is also the author of seven books.

Father John Graden is Director of DeSales Resources and Ministries. Known throughout the US for his preaching, Fr. John has spoken in over 600 parishes in the US offering parish missions and appealing for sponsors for the poor in developing countries.

A Joyful Sunday Morning with Mary Sellars Malloy

Count it All Joy. In our everyday world, JOY is a brand of dish soap, half of the name of a favorite candy bar, a thing to be attained by purchasing the luxury car, the dream home, or the perfect pair of shoes. Why is it, then, that some of the most joyful people we meet are those we serve in the soup kitchens and on the mission fields? Why is JOY, that Fruit of the Spirit, so evident in their faces, their singing, and their praying? Mary Malloy invites us to take a fresh look at the charism of joy - how we develop it, nurture it, express it, and celebrate it in the midst of busy days filled with everyday tasks, and in seasons of sorrow, challenge and change.

Mary Sellars Malloy, is an accomplished musician, singer, songwriter who has used her talents to serve as a liturgist and teacher, retreat, workshop and parish mission presenter, including Salesian Missions. She served for eight years as the Director of the Liturgy Office, Diocese of Saginaw, and as the Pastoral Associate for Religious Education and Social Outreach at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond, Virginia. Mary is a talented storyteller with a special affection for the poor and for those with special needs. Mary has recently begun a new career as a Senior Editor for RCL Benziger Publishing Company.
